View Full Version : Aiptek A-HD Zoom Question
Isaactheman
I did decide on buying the Aiptek A-HD last christmas (my other post is still near the top on here haha) and I really like it. My only question is this: Is there any way to get it to zoom out more? It zooms out when I take a picture, but I have it all the way zoomed out already. I would like it better if it just stayed the way it looks when it takes a picture.
Does anyone else have this camera and know some way to zoom it out? Thanks.

I gather that's the ~$150 pocket cam? If so, then surely you understand the adage about you get what you pay for? Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the (relatively) inexpensive pocket cams - I have one myself that I am quite pleased with (Flip Ultra). But let's face it, it's a $150 cam. ;) So I'd guess the only way you could get it to zoom out more would be to take 10 giant steps backwards. :D

I don't understand what you're saying here.

The camera is around $150, yes. But, that doesn't seem to be a problem. This particular camera is a little weird with the zoom. Here are some examples:

This is a still capture from video taken by the camera.

This is a picture taken by the camera from the exact same position.
The only time the camera looks like it is at the correct zoom level is when it takes a picture. It zooms out for a split second to take the picture, and then zooms back in. In both pictures, before I recorded or took the picture, the camera was zoomed out as far as it would go.
I know the camera is capable of zooming out, since it does it for the pictures. I just was wondering if anyone knew how to do it for video. Right now it looks like it's always zoomed in. It gets annoying.
Edit: I can't get the pictures to load right. Stupid things. For some reason you have to copy and paste the addresses into your browser, instead of just clicking on them. Oh well.

If it has stabilization, make sure that is turned OFF in video mode. Thet's the only thing I can think of.

I figured it out. The pictures are 8mp but the video camera was in SD. When I switched it to HD, nothing would zoom in and out anymore, but the annoying black bars on top and bottom are shown when recording a video. When I take a picture, they remove the letterboxing and take a picture at the same zoom level. Is there a way to remove letterboxing on this camera during video recording? Probably not..
