View Full Version : Any way to get DD5.1?

Like is there an add-on mic, or is my HF10 limited to DD2.0? The sound is pretty good, but I'd like the more surround sound. It's the only thing I miss from my Sony SR1.

Thanks!

On the topic of surround sound. What is everyone using to author their 5.1? Premiere Pro has that sure code rubbish which costs *too much extra* and I never got any good of with the three free tries. :(
I've used the 5.1 facility in Pinnacle Studio which works but does not allow for much layering due to limited audio tracks.

Vegas Pro 8 does an excellent job. But you have to get the full version that includes the Dolby Digital AC-3 encoding software. It gives you a lot of audio options that the others don't.

Newegg has a pretty good deal going on it right now.

You could also consider adding surround simulation. It would be fairly close since the built-in mic channel seperation typically isn't great (meaning your rear speakers are often very close in volume as the front speakers with sound coming from the front only).
That said I certainly would welcome if Canon added some 5.1 capability:-)

Otherwise your only option is to record the sound seperately since the Canon has no 5.1 recording input (and probably no encoding either).
For instance you could use a digital 5.1 track recorder (and then sync in editing).
