i really have an affinity for this camera, even though it will be my first camera in like 7 years

i dot have an HD tv yet, or any of that, but im sure i will eventually

in the mean time can i record in regular def, burn the videos onto a dvd and watch them on my regular tv?

also what opinions do uhave of the 40gb version of canans HD camera

No you can't! But if you'd read a little before questioning.... Here's the link: http://www.camcorderinfo.com/content/Canon-Vixia-HF10-Camcorder-Review-34711/Format.htm

Save the $150 price difference and get the HF100 instead. For like $60 get two 8GB SDHC cards. Shoot HD (1080i, maximum quality) and make backups of all your movies on DVD double-layer (an 8GB card fits perfectly on a double-layer DVD). Keep the backups until you get an HD screen.

Until then, make standard-def DVDs out of your HD backups. There are tons of programs out there that can do it. If you wait a little bit, I will post on this forum in a week or two a simple method to do a high-quality HD-to-DVD conversion using free tools.
Or just use any DVD authoring program that accepts HD input.
