Don't use 24p mode for fast action shots and slowmo. Use 60i instead. Shoot 60i, de-interlace and finalize it as 30p. If you choose to shoot 24p, don't render out your project as 24p without first removing the pulldown or else it will produce terrible ghosting like you have. Leave it as 30p.

is the 60i mode just the regular hdv mode? and how do it make it 30p?

Yes, regular HDV mode is 60i. To make it 30p, de-interlace your video using blend the fields method after capturing. Your video will be converted to 30p.

excuse my noobiness, but what is the "blend the fields method"? i have been trying to follow these steps on removing pulldownhere (http://eugenia.gnomefiles.org/2007/07/13/canon-hv20-24p-pulldown/)
but the link for the TIVTC v1.05 plugin doesnt work.

Blend the fields method is combining two half frames (fields) produced by the camcorder in 60i mode consisting of odd and even frames to make 30 full frames out of it. When you de-interlace or select progressive instead of interlace your NLE may ask you which method to use. Blend the fields method works best IMO.
As for the link, it works for me. Try it again.

It stands for Non-Linear Editing. So it is basically the editing software you are using.

my editing software does not offer any options similar to what your describing i dont think

What are you using? Maybe there's a way to do it that you just haven't found yet.
Good luck.

i am using ulead video studio ten plus, and btw i got the whole pulldown remover programs to work, but it seems impractical because even if i shot only ten minutes of footage i estimate it would take and hour or 2 to convert

OK. I don't use Ulead products but someone here might be able to tell you how to choose a deinterlace method. If not, pop on over to the Ulead VideoStudio forum (http://www.camcorderinfo.com/bbs/f129), if you haven't already, and ask over there.
Good luck.
