Conversion to AVI

I have a canon HG10 and just transferred the movie files to my PC. How can I convert them to the AVI format so I can post them on youtube?? Sorry for such a newbie question.

It will allow you to convert the AVCHD files to avi.

Baldie, do u have a program u can use to convert your videos?

If u dont, just download the free trial of Nero 8. It includes Nero Vision which lets u edit/convert AVCHD files. It also has enough output presets so u can just select and render away easily.

Also, it doesnt have to be AVI (which is usually Divx) it can be mp4, wmv or anything else which is compressed so u can upload faster. Youtube will re-encode your video to something lower quality anyways.

Just remember, for all AVCHD related things, u need a powerful PC to get efficient results, older PCs (even 2-3yr old) will have trouble crunching through the HD data. All u really need is a current $100 Intel CPU, core 2 duo.
