View Full Version : Canon HF11 2.76meg, Sony SR12 10.2meg?

Was looking at the comparison of the Canon HF11 and Sony SR12. These cameras seem to be in the same group for video but the specs concerning still images are so much different. Is this correct?

The Sony SR12 claims 10.2meg stills interpolated (does that convert to a lower number for comparison to the Canon), and the Canon HF11 is only 2.76meg, is this right?

One thing I read on the Canon is that due to the build in flash memory you actually have a 2+ meg still of every frame of video you shoot. Is this something unique to the Canon due to it's built in Flash memory that the Sony does not provide since it has a built in HD instead of built in Flash. Any clarification to help me understand would be appreciated.

Thanks.

video but the specs concerning still images are so much different. Is this correct? Did you mis the megapixel wars? Outcome - the numer of pixels is not an indicator of image quality.

The Sony SR12 claims 10.2meg stills interpolated (does that convert to a lower number for comparison to the Canon), and the Canon HF11 is only 2.76meg, is this right? The Sony is a 'true' 5.1MP image from a 5.6MP sensor, the Canon is a 'true' 2.76MP from a 3.3MP sensor. Interpolated figures are meaningless.

Still Actual : 5080K Pixels (4:3), 3810K Pixels (16:9)
Still Picture Resolution : 10.2 megapixel
Video Actual : 2860K Pixels (4:3), 3810K Pixels (16:9)
Video Resolution : 1920 x 1080

The Canon machine offers progressive modes which I don't see on the Sony so each frame can be without interlace artifacts. I dont see microphone/audio level control on the Sony something I love on my HF10.

Both the Canon and Sony are awesome machines, ignore pixel count, choose a machine which works best in your hands with the features you want/need.
