Hi Folks,
All the footage from my elura 100 has been recorded without date/time shown on the camera LCD while recording so when i capture to my pc and render for dvd etc - i cant tell from watching the footage when it was recorded..
is it possible using Sony Vegas or some other tool to extract the date/time from the .AVI file captured and have it included in the render in sony vegas?
Cheers,
Mick

On MiniDV camcorders the date/time data is output via Firewire. I use this free utility "DVdate" by Paul Glagla to put the date/stamp on my video after it is transferred to computer via Firewire.. It has a variety options on how and where you want the date after you transfer your video: http://paul.glagla.free.fr/dvdate_en.htm
(However, you can lose the original date if you edit the video and then save it.)

If you look at the detail view of individual clips while they're in the Vegas project media bin, you'll see all the information you need.
Edit Details will also show this information for any clips on the timeline.

Another option, for next time or if you want to recapture, is to use WinDV (http://windv.mourek.cz/) to do your capture instead of Vegas.
WinDV offers an option to name the files it creates with the time and date when the clip was shot. It is configurable so you can get the name just the way you want.
I do all my captures with WinDV just so I can keep track of when my video was shot. This is far better than relying on the time/date of the file which can get changed. I also think it is better than stamping the date within the frame because it can never be removed once there.
Good luck.

Funny, b/c I find the dates annoying. I prefer to add the date at the beginning or end, when editing.
