I have a canon hg20 camcorder. Will the high definition is AVCHD be shown on a laptop in HD? Also, will I be able to burn my home movies on to bluray dics (25 GB or 50 GB). Or do I have to burn them to regular DVD's? Also what do I need to burn bluray discs?

Also if I save my movies to an external TB hard drive will I be able to watch them off the hard drive on to my computer?

What is the best way to back up the movies disc or external hard drive?

Also, what software should I get for edditing my movies for the canon HG20? Is the software it comes with good enough?

Hi Jack,

You should save your movies on 2 hds if you want to be 100% safe. So, the best option is to save into your computer, and backup it on a external hd. (its what I do). And yes, you can see on your computer the movies in the external hd plugged on the USB cable.

You can burn the movies on regular DVDs, but first you'll need to convert them. There are several free softwares to do it, and the software included also is a good option, but not the best.

I'm used to edit in Adobe Premiere. But this week I'm trying (and I'm loving) the PowerDirector 7, from Cyberlink. It can render the movie output using your GPU, it means a 500% in speed gains over my CPU! This is the future, sooner all video edition softwares will use this feature. You should try yourself, it's very simple to use.

Best,
