View Full Version : Can I copy videos from PC back to the camcorder hard drive?

JrFreak
My SR11 is almost full and I'm just about to leave on vacation. I copied everything on to two external hard drives so I'm in good shape there. But I like being able to watch the videos on a TV right from my camcorder. If I clean my hard drive can I move videos back on to it to play on a TV straight from the camcorder again? I don't want to have to burn DVDs and haul them around too.

Yes, but you'll need to a) preserve the whole directory structure, and b) use PMB to copy the files back. I don't think you can just drag and drop them back to the camcorder.

In any event, it's very risky. But as long as you have a backup elsewhere, I guess the risk is manageable.

I'm not sure what you mean about "hauling" DVDs around. DVDs are certainly much easier to "haul" around than cams. So...assuming you travel a lot & always have your cam with you, there are other options that allow you to stream your video from your home computer to either another tv and/or your smart phone. Or...if you take a laptop/netbook with you, you can play your footage from a USB drive, if you don't want to store it on your hard drive. These are only a few options.

If you aren't on the road almost endlessly, IMO, DVDs are the best option. They really don't take that long to burn, especially if you burn them when you're away from the computer doing something else. They are also inexpensive and certainly not difficult to "haul" around.
