Can anyone help. I have tried connecting my camcorder to a desktop PC with a firewire card installed. Windows detected the card and installed a driver for it. In system properties the card is shown as operating correctly and no conflicts. The operating system is Windows ME. The cable used came supplied with the Firewire card and is a 6pin - 4 pin i.e large to small connector. No Video software will detect the camcorder. I have also installed DirectX 8.0

As a test i have connected the camcorder to a friends laptop also running Windows ME but this time using the cable supplied with the Camcorder which is a 4pin - 4pin i.e small to small connector. This worked first time.

Even though Windows shows the firewire card is operating correctly is it possible that there could still be interrupt or memory conflicts with other devices ? I noticed on another reply someone suggested trying a different PCI slot.

Any suggestions ?

When you connect the camcorder to your computer with the 6-4 cable, does the camcorder show up in system properties as an "imaging device"?

If that's the case, my thoughts are that you have a defective 6-4 cable.
