For anyone reading this, I answered my own question. I had to run the head cleaning tape through a couple times, but it helped the problem quite a bit.

doesn't record at beginning of tape

When I reuse a tape from the beginning, the recorded part at the beginning is often missing, bled through with video and audio, or the video comes out with bars. This can last from a few seconds to 4...

I won't be doing any roaming, Chris. The camera is on a tripod and I did very little panning or zooming. I believe they only had one mic on the house board to pick up everything, and it even picked...

It could be next to impossible, Rich, except that the noisiest table was the one with the band's wives and friends. I guess they're used to hearing them play, so they just talked through it. And the...

(Long Post) Recording session failed in every way.

This is a long post, so my feelings won't be hurt if you don't read it.
I'll start at the beginning. I went to a music festival on July 4th weekend and brought along my TRV38 to record some of my...

Noise canceling headphone questions

Do noise canceling headphones work? If so, would they work for recording music? Since the sound you want to hear is the same sound (outside the headphones) that you want to cancel, it seems like a...

My Nady CM-2S arrived

Nady Systems sent me a CM-2S to review. It just arrived. I can't wait to get home and test it, but it's raining so hard that there's too much background noise.
The CM-2S seems to be a knock-off of...

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who feels this way. After seeing it on some TV shows, and commercials, aimed a young audience, I was beginning to think it's the cool (or should that be...

I'm not sure I understand the idea behind not zooming while recording, but it seems like your shoot was a success.

Great explaination, Ernie.

Just so there's no misunderstanding, I'll point out that this is not how all Sony "hot shoe" mics work with Sony camcorders. My Sony ECM-HS1 mic with a Sony TRV38 works...

Thanks, Guy. That's what I thought, but then I read a review that said it had 2 1/2" LCD too. I hope that wasn't on here. Probably the same place I read that the GS200 had a 3 1/2" screen.

My Sony...

3 1/2" LCD on GS series

Which models in the GS series (120 to 400) have 3 1/2" LCDs? The reviews I'm reading give conflicting info, some saying a particular model has 2 1/2" and others saying 3 1/2". Anybody know for sure?

It's for recording music. I use external mics, but the automatic gain control raises the background noise during quiet passages and also flattens a lot of the dynamic range.

Defeating auto volume level ??

I know this is a long shot. I have a TRV38 and it uses automatic level control for the audio volume. I don't suppose anybody knows a way to defeat this? A work-around, maybe, or some item tucked away...

CCD Block Assembly

OK, so it's the CCD Block Assembly that goes bad (or corrodes) in the TRV39, 38, 33 and other model Sony camcorders. Is it the same CCD Block Assembly (part number) used in each of these models, or...

Hey Tim, those are great ideas.

GTX stands for Going to Xtremes. It was the name of the online racing team I belonged to for a few years. I got used to logging on with the name.
