One way I can think of is to take the hard drive out & mounted it in an 1.8" HDD enclosure...

To my understanding, the only feature that the MG505 have and the MG555/575 don't is the zoom feature during playback of video/photo....

MPEG1 & other don't give you that check box.

The filter is one of the most important criteria for a camcorder, in my opinion. Without the filter, I wouldn't even consider taking it out of the camera bag.
