There is some resolution loss in the DV953's 16:9 mode but its definitely acceptable. Look to the upcoming GS400 for great 16:9 with no vertical zoom (resolution loss) and a widened angle of view.

Jono, the HC1000 is going to be better equipped visually like the Sony DSR-PDX10 while lacking its XLR inputs and DVCAM recording capabilities. The benefit of the HC1000 over the TRV950 will also be...

Yeah, my 10D weighs a ton with the 28-135mm IS USM lens and 420ex flash. In a pinch I will definitely use camcorder stills. Shaprness was dialed down but I don't recall how much.

Maybe one day...

As usual the review is off mark.

The HC1000 has a high quality widescreen mode much like the DSR-PDX10 (sans XLR and DVCAM). The TRV950 has a pretty crappy widescreen mode.

YES it does optical...

waynemm, The DVC30 will lack a quality 16:9 mode due to its relatively low pixel count per CCD. Its a trade-off for better low light performance but I would rather have PDX10 superior widescreen.

Broohaha,

I took my chances with the GS100 and I have been quite pleased. I would forget the GS120 or GS200 as they inferior to both the DV953 and GS100.

My only concern about the GS100 is that...

GS120 and GS200 will not offer OIS. Nor will it have frame mode or a quality 16:9 mode.

I didn't think my past DV953 was that large, have you held one?

Wow, first I've heard of a GS70 user wanting to upgrade to a GS200. Why not step up to a Panny with OIS and a quality 16:9 mode like the DV953 or imported GS100?
