Any monitor that stretches 1080 to 1200 instead of letterboxing is committing a crime against HD. They ought to be hung in the market square and shamed for all to see and avoid.

You're welcome. There is a pocket, but it's accessible from the top, not the rear. I use it for my headphones and a 10-foot XLR cable with room leftover.

No, not at all; I don't even notice it. (I...

Here you are. The third photo highlights the protrusion that makes it hard to close the case. Again, if you lay the camera on its side, without the lens hood, it will fit perfectly, but take up even...

I just bought the Cinebags CB-20 and XH A1 on Friday. One can fit the camera easily on its side without the lens hood and have room for some cables. But what I do is put it in right-side-up with lens...

I know it's off topic, but you made me curious: why do you want a light meter? I can understand why you'd want one with a film camera, because you can't see the final output to check your exposure....

The $700 PV-GS500 is my recommendation.

Very easy. It just takes a long time (1 hour per tape).

If there's nothing physically wrong with your tape or camera (like dirt or something), then you...

Nothing really matches the VX2100 in low-light. However, At $2,450, the PD170 is only $150 more than the VX2100 and it has several important features, such as XLR inputs.

If low-light isn't...

Hmm... Don't do that? Seriously, nothing will compensate for "flat" light. Dull? We've got something for that. Low contrast? Sure, we can help. But flat? Nope, nothing to do about that. Try setting...

I would love HDD too. However, the fastest disks now are only 70-80 MB/s, and they are $500+ 3.5" SCSI. But even the lowly 2.5" disks can sustain 40MB/s, so it would be fast enough to transfer the...

I don't know much about the Digital 8, but I would expect similar quality from firewire. What compression codec are you using? If it's a lossy codec like WMV or quicktime, that may be the source of...

Try setting a manual white balance

Set a manual white balance; it's very easy to do. The GS-500 reviews say that the auto white balance is very good, but I doubt it is infallible. Remember that the white balance sensor is not through...

Dust on the sensor, perhaps?

Wild guess: perhaps it's dust on the sensor? Try setting the focus to infinity, aperture to the narrowest possible (f/16?), and 0 dB gain. Then record an all-white surface. That should display any...

Buy the XH A1

You can fix the "yellow effect" for free by setting a custom white balance on your GS400 if you can get a white card into the light before the event begins.

But if you have the money, by all means,...

Thumbs up I'd love HD if I could afford it, but it wont be prevalent enough.

Thanks for the response.

Thanks for the advice; it's a very difficult decision. If the $2300 cam could meet my needs, then it would cost an extra $1400 to get HD with equivalent low-light...
