Question CP/Fast Shutter Speed Experiment

I am an owner of a Sony PDX-10 and let my good friend borrow it for a month's time for him to complete his feature. During this time, I have been wondering about capturing "stacatto" type motion (Saving Private Ryan, Gladiator, and Banlieu 13 {FR}) by adjusting the exposure (allowing more light to enter) in Capture Preset and using a fast shutter speed 1/1000 and up. Using a fast shutter speed allows less light to enter into the camera but captures motion sharply. By customizing exposure in CP mode, I am able to let more light in and adjust the shutter speed in which there is no other way to do so w/o using a film camera. My dilema is that I will be shooting in the shadow of a building. True, I can move across the street into the sunlight but widens the area as opposed to a tighter space. Since this is a NO budget project, I have no insurance and makes control more difficult. Anyway, I wanted to know if anyone has attempted this? I have another two weeks w/o my camera and am itching to experiment.
