Got mine years back at Radio Shack. Made specifically for jead cleaning. Yes...you should use solution.
Here is another tip.
Take the SQUARE STICK-EMS/POST-IT NOTE and soak them with the solution. Placew against the head and move the drum back and forth.

It sure sounds like a great idea for cleaning heads, but the only one I've ever had was about the size of a tongue depressor and I would never be able to get it far enough into my camera's tape drive.
A suggestion for an on-line supplier would be greatly appreciated :-)
