JVC GR-D90U Lens Cap Warning

I have owned this camera for 8 months. Constantly gives the lens cap warning in automatic and manual modes. Will only record sound. LCD is black with only the warning. Thanks for help.

Sorry Tugboat. Can't help you. I've got the same problem in my 30U. I left a message with JVC and will follow up this week. Just happened yesterday.

Unhappy Lens Cap Warning

Have any of you guys had any luck.
I had the same problem since early August. I left a message with JVC Tech Support the day after. To this day, I still haven't heard from them

Hello,

My my JVC GR-D31EK started doing this a week ago.

Took it back to currys today, they didn't want to know because it was less than a week over the 12month garuntee. Bought it boxing day last year. Hahaha the people there made me very angry, seeings as it broke on christmas day and i have only just got around to diging out the reciept and them actually being open. Ah well suppossee it is my own fault really for being lazy or something.

Anyway, got it home, and after changing tapes, and turning it off and on, and pluging it into my computer and so on and so forth, basically messing around with it.

Its working again.

So im not sure if this is a loose wire sort of thing or what, but it seems that my camcorder is back to life for the moment anyway.

So to those suffering the same problem, i suggest doing every possible combination of tunring on with tapes in and out and plugged into computer via fiorewire and palying tapes back on it and all that jazz.

So in conclusion i wouldn't think it was a problem such as a catastrophic faliure of some of the hardware, but an intermittent fault caused by whatever, something loose or whatever.

Basically I'm trying to inject some hope into the situation.

Suppose we could all get ours working a little bit and quickly sell them on. hahaha , I jest of course.

Would like to hear how others are getting on with the problem.

Tom.

JVC service is really poor, will never buy JVC product again

I bought a JVC GR-D50EK on Auguest 2003 in UK. Moved to U.S on Feb. 2005. On May 2006, met the CCD problem. I contacted JVC Uk first, I was told I could contact JVC U. S to get it fixed for free. I then contacted JVC U. S, they agreed to get it fixed for free. I then sent it to the factory service center. After about 1 month, the comcorder was back, this time, I can see images, but the lower part of the image was blank, it happens randomly. I then sent it again ( the second time). This time, they just cleaned the comcorder and sent it back without doing any repair. I have to send it again (third time), this time, I recorded some video on a tape, sent the tape together with the comcorder to make sure they what's wrong with the comcorder. Unfortenetely, this time, they just aligned the tape. I have to send it in for the fourth time. This time, they said " no problem found". I contacted JVC, insisting on speaking to the manager. They said the manager would call me back within 48 hours. But no one call me. I called them again, they said I can only send it for repair again. They cannot gurante it can be repaired. And they refused to give me a replacement which they told me they will issue me a replacement if you can't repaired it during our former conversation.

Service is really bad, will never buy JVC product again.

JVC 95u

I did get reply from jvc.. to send it to nearest jvc service for min $50 +. Did not get to know any specific problem..it was i guess general reply from jvc. I like other products from jvc that I have but looks like need to switch in case of cams.. lot of people having this problem suddenly without any reason. Feel just too bad.. used it for exactly a year.
meanwhile pls post on bb any news on this as i dont intend to buy another cam soon.

Well the JVC service center must be slow because they give me an estimate and the repair is completed. Dropped it off at 4 in the afternoon and by 10 the next day it was done. They replaced the CCD for a total cost of $161.20. I need to pick it up now.

Lens Cap Error

Hi folks,

Yes, I'm experiencing the same errors as all of you. I have contacted JVC too, but no reply yet, and I also think that my warranty is exactly two weeks out!

Seems like JVC have designed the LCD to last exactly 367 days!!!

Just wondering MluM, has the replacement of the LCD screen ($161.20) caused you any problems, as this seems to be the ONLY solution.

Regards,

Mark

Mark:

It is not the LCD (external vewing screen) that we are referring to, it is the CCD (image receptor) behind the lens. And it may not always be defective in itself. I read one thread somewhere, where the user took it upon himself (he seemed to have electronics experience) to take the camcorder apart into two sections, and reconnected a cable from the CCD to the circuit board. I don't know the validity of that user's statement, but it does seem another possible explanation. There may be a multiple of causes for that Lens Cap message to appear (besides the obvious one).

Lens Cap

Thanks for the advice.

I don't have any electronics skills, so I've left it in to be repaired...fingers crossed it won't cost an arm and a leg!

Many thanks.

Mark
