Then turn on the computer, wait for it to to get all loaded up. when you are at the desktop, LOG OFF the computer (NOT TURN OFF) log back on. open pinnacle, it works from there. So far it has worked everytime.

Oh My GOD!!!! IT WORKED!!! My camcorder is capturing after I tried your suggested procedure.
Today I went to 3 stores looking for the new firewire card (pinnacle), they did not had it. I was cheking all the threads for 100th time to see if I missed anything , I decided to try your option. I am glad I did. it works!!
YeY!!!!! Thank you!
Only thing it does not do as of yet, it does not break it outomatically into sceenes. i will have to break it up as i edit it, or find a solution.

I have the same problem, after one month of search and test y solve it.
The problem is that the computer has a harware conflict with the firewire chipset and the camcorder, the most popular problem is that the firewire chipset is VIA, and it generate problems in a computers with motherboards without VIA chipset (INTEL in my case), in computers with VIA chipset in motherboard (Biostar) it works god.
I solved the problem changin the firewire card with VIA chipset for another with TI (Texas Instruments, www.adstech.com) now it works perfect.
I had to check 5 PC (3 AMD, 2 INTEL), 3 fire wire cards, and 2 cable. after this y can say that the solution is a TI (texas Instruments) fire wire card.

Driving Me Mad!
Hello All,
I seem to to having exactly the same problem with my GR D33U not being able to capture the pictures, but being able to control. I have XP and a VIA firewire.
I have downloaded the patch from MS, but when I try to edit the registry, I only get as far as the bold shows, but the 1394_hc_hw_id does not show as an available file to select as a folder:
2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\P CI\1394_hc_hw_id\1394_instance_id\Device Parameters
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks,
Donhinio.

Supposedly over-writing the drivers with the SP1 drivers is supposed to fix the problem, I have not tried this yet however.

work!
i have JVC gr 70U, and have the same problem, cannot capture it on my winXP. wheneever i press capture, my PC freeze. I use VIA 1394 chipset (firewire PCI card)
i already try all suggestions in this forum, nothing worked! try to update the fix form microsoft,
from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&displaylang=en
and then try to log off, not worl
just one left suggestion i didn't do, buy the TI firewire, so i still use this VIA.
after 2 hours messed up,
i just try the simple thing using my SONY VEgas 6.0c, use smart prieview, and it worked well, i can capture it!
when i try to capture with previewing, it freeze again, so any one who still have this problem, try capture with no preview or smart preview in vegas, i think other capture s/w has this option...i hope this help!

Gr D33u
Please help. I have tried everything here and still cannot transfer DV from my GR D33U. My pc has a VIA firewire do I need to change it or is there another fix. My PC had XP SP2 on it when I got it so I don't know if SP2 is the issue since I never tried under SP1. Someone please help.
Thank you,

Try unplugging DV cable...
I read on Google a bit ago and tried it and it works!

From Bluesman:
I have had the same problem on a couple of machines.....
I have a Sony Vaio that worked fine until updated with SP2 then unable to
capture, black preview screen...
Also have a clone built that did the same thing from day one.
Here is the solution....not a solution but more a workaround.
When you open Windows Movie Maker or Sony Vegas (or whatever you use) to
capture video go through the steps as you might normally. When camera starts
playing and NOT previewing simply unplug the camera and plug back in very
quickly.....The video preview window will now display and record properly.
Once you have the preview diplaying properly you can stop the capture
process and restart if neccesary or open another app and capture there fine
too. Seems like the hardware bus just gets confused initially. If you unplug
for any length of time you simply go through the quick unplug / plug in
scenario and your back in business till the next time.

There is a Fix
Hello Friends,
I to found that I had this same blank capture Screen in all my vid capture software. searched the net for over a week looking for the Quick click "FIX"
First I tried the Sidspeed fix with no luck there. The next Thing I tried was a 12 dollar card from newegg.com that everybody swore would work,
15-124-015
ADD ON FW 1394 SYBA| SD-LUC-4F RT
1
$11.99
$11.99
sad to say no luck there ether at first,
I had been avoiding the "Final Solution" which involved switching some firewire driver files from sp1 into sp2. but I was at the end of the Road There was nothing I had not tried.I found the directions here.
http://www.videredesign.com/Vision%..._workaround.htm
I followed the directions too the letter as I was scared I might mess something up and have no camcorder use at all.
Well after doing the deal it was show time I pluged the JVC into the onboard firewire connect studio 11 fired up and I clicked on the capture take. My jaw droped still the Dreaded Black Capture Screen. Well , at that time I decided to live with the old analoge capture card that came with the mother board. I was going to pack all my firewire stuff and get my money back...
But then as a afterthought I tried the pci fierwire card I got at newegg one more time before I pulled it out. I didn't think it would work because I had done the same thing to the drivers on both the motherboard and the card. Pluged in the JVC Studio 11 fired up, I hit the capture tap and it was blank.... but I started the cam rolling and it worked and had been ever since.
In my Research into the problem it seem the microstuff made some changes to the 1394 drivers between sp1 and sp 2 that was not good for many DV cam owners not just JVC but others as well. Maybe it was a programmer typo. could have crossed the audio source for the vid who knows. Right now JVC and Mirostuff are playing the blame game.
I would seem that the sp2 1394 drivers arn't giving windows the right data source or coruppting. I believe 1 or all three of the solutions given here, depending on you system, will get you back with the dv crowd.
I believe that it was worth all the time and money that I put into the Fix .because once I got my old JVC GR-72U on firewire the image Quality was breathtaking . The JVC GR-72U lives up to all the rave reviews for a low cost high quality mini DV camcorder
Remember you may need the card and the xp sp2 workaround to get rolling. but I woud try the workaround first might not need the card.I don't think sidspeed had any effect for me have to get a plasama tv to find out hehe
