DANGER DANGER - BEST PRICE CAMERAS (Yahoo store)
http://store.yahoo.com/bestpricecameras/
the business practices of this place are criminal.
please read through the epinoins thread about the company..... also note that all of the positive feedbacks are pretty well one liners... suspicious>>> I think so.
http://www.epinions.com/pr-Online_S...t_Price_Cameras
after fighting with them over 10 days and 30 phonecalls I finally got my refund processed.
remember..... when buying anything online... GOOGLE is your best friend.

shoulda known better
Against my better judgement, I bought a "Demo" GS 400 from a supposedly reputable company--B & H. I was told by their representative that the camera had a small scratch on top, otherwise it was in great shape. (I was a bit leery because of the tape transport problem.) So excitedly my husband and I tried our new camera, only to realize the microphone on top doesn't work. Nor does the record button work. After thoroughly inspecting the camera, we found a crack in the housing of the camera. Dropped??? Of course, we found all this after B & H's business hours, so all I can do is stew. This camera will be going back. Now I have no way to get a new one--every site says on backorder. And I'm not too fond of B & H right now. Any suggestions on another model, one I can actually find in a local store? I really had my heart set on this one though, sighhhh....

I just read a magazine review that compared the Sony HC1000 favorably to the GS400. You might want to look at that.
Good luck.

Are these guys okay?
Hi, I am from Australia and am in the process of buying a Panasonic PV-GS400 camcorder in the United States via the Internet. Came across this site :- https://www.bestchoicedigital.com ... while searching at calibex for the best price.
Rang them up the other day and chatted to a sales person, he seemed okay, ... but I am wary. They operate out of New York somewhere, but do not have a shopfront.
Has anybody had dealings with this company or know whether or not they are legitimate. Australia is a long way away and I don't want to be ripped off.
Also can anybody recommend somebody they have dealt with before that have good prices and are legitimate.
Thanks in advance, Ned
PS. Great site .... great thread!

great topic... i am in the midst of purchasing a gs400. none of the authorized dealers - one call or b&h have them in stock - they say they have been backordered panasonic since december!
after researching lots of the non-authorized dealers on resellerratings.com, places like buydig and such who say they have it in stock i dont believe them or want to do business w/them.
any tips on reputable panasonic authorized stores???/

Has anyone used this dealer, a couple people on this forum recommended it, but they are not an authorized dealer:
www.bestpriceaudiovideo.com
I am looking to buy the canon Optura 40, but may wait until they come out with the 60.
thanks,

Besides B and H, are there any other reputable places, sometimes they discontinue items that i would like to purchase. Need a good back up vendor.
thanks

I have decided to make this list to help customers make the best buying decision when shopping for electronics through a magazine ad, or the Internet. It's amazing no matter how many warnings that are out there before someone buys from a "Scum Bag" outfit most of them in Brooklyn, NY aka King County, NY! People will still take a chance and go ahead and let themselves get ripped off.
This list will grow as it will take time to add all the names, addresses, and web site URLs for the list. Be careful and do your research before you buy. The best and safe way to do this is to go to the manufacturers web site and take a look at the list of authorized dealers.
Be careful out there it's a fraudulent jungle!

Yes there is Norman Camera, Adorama, J&R, Samys Camera, Video Direct, and IBMEGA. Don't waste your time w/ OC, CC, and BB.

I'm Lost ....
The thread "seemed" to start out with a shot at the "scum-bag shops" - then it continues with a list of positive places to purchase, and then there are posts included where we are back to a "questionable" shops.
I understand the need to generate revenue to keep a site like this going, but when PriceGrabber (or similar) comparison sites list companies that don't rate high (or at all) on the Resellers web pages, I wonder why you (Camcorderinfo) continue to use them and publish their lowest prices.
Is it too difficult or impossible to ask if we couldn't make just a list of positive stores with low prices? If not, I suppose we can all go to Sears, Circuit City, Best Buy and pay going rate. If not, may I suggest and ask, for the names of just four (4) mail order sources that others have used and found acceptable?
As an example, the initial list shows Butterfly Camera and as I read it, they appear to be suspect .. (or at least a "Kevin" is). Further down it looks like someone is going to buy from Butterfly, and an older purchase reference seems positive.
I guess I would like to see a list of great places to buy from as compared to a huge laundry list of "scumbag shops". Can we just post the positives - and if we don't seem them here as a recommendation go to the Resellers site for more info?
Thanks.
EDIT: Added - apologies - just saw the above post (missed it earlier) Norman Camera, Adorama, J&R, Samys Camera, Video Direct, and IBMEGA so will take a look at each of them - any others?

You missed B&H which was in the original whose reply you quoted. B&H may not have the lowest price all the time but I don't think you will find anyone who has been told they have something in stock when it isn't just to lock you in to a purchase. Also, they have very knowledgeable sales people. If you ever get a chance, go to their store in New York. It is a fabulous place.
Good luck.

I have a very bad experience with them. I bought Optura 30 from them because the price is so cheap. After waiting for 2 days not receiving any email confirmation about my order, I called them. First, they could not find the order. Then while they were trying to sell me extended warrenty, I was told this is a gray-market product, it comes with nothing (only the camcorder), and Canon does not offer any warrenty. I asked the rep. where it was indicated that it is grey-market product, he told me it's on the product page, which was not. Then he said it is on my recipt, could not find it. Finally he said read their policy, it's there. So, I hung up and started reading it ... found none. Called back, a different rep, but went thru the same thing, after I told him that I just read their policy and did not find it, he said "well, now you know, I just told you!". I told him that is not acceptable, he then hung up on me. I called back twice, got no where with them. After talking to Canon, I was told that Canon does offer same warrenty for gray-market product as long as you bought in US. There're also bunch of other "incorrect" information their sales rep gave me which I confirmed with Canon. Plus, the customer service really sucks, they put you on hold for a long time even when you are in the middle of conversation if there is a sales call coming in (it is more important to make money than giving customer service). I would not buy anything from them.
Hope this helps.
