I thought my father had broke his camera but now I see it's a widespread problem. His SCD103 went black a few months ago. The symptoms are the same, audio is okay, tape playback is good, but the active display (minus menu displays) is black. I called Samsung a few days ago and got the same respond as others. $160 for repair. The guy told me it might be a dirty head but I really doubt that. And someone correct me if I'm wrong but heads should only affect tape playback and it should not just be black. I'm going to try and call again and see what happens.

Angry More Samsux!! Deception!!

SILENTKV,, Just so you know the SCD 103 has the exact same CCD as the SCD 23, 24, 27, 103, 164 etc...! But Samsung tries to say not because they cleverly gave it a different part # after it is attached to the PCB! However, if you dig hard,(I already did the resaerch,, if you click on my user name and then find my posts,,,it will take some time but you will find thall my research and the part numbers to prove it! You can then use that info as ammunition in your argument with SamSux!!) you find that the actual CCD used is the same part that is failing on all the other cams!!!

The original post here is from 2006. I am happy to let you all know that Samsung is still honoring it's plan to recall the shot SCD23 units. I found this thread via a Google search when my ccd unit went bad. I called the number originally posted by Tom (figured what the heck, why not give it a try) and spoke with two great people who helped me. I should be receiving a refurbished SCD382 within 14 days. I'm supposed to send my broken camcorder back in the same box. This, in sum, is my HUGE thank you to this forum - without it, I'd be stuck with a shot camera.
