Got it fixed
After all this time, my scd23 is repaired and back in my hands. I have followed these threads for quite some time now, originally finding out re: the black screen of death, seeing some getting cameras repaired, noting Samsux doing as little as possible, watching the class action being filed and being successful, realizing the suit was in the U.S. and wondering if there would be any recourse for Canadians with these cameras, etc, etc. Well, Samsux Canada would do nothing so I tried Samsux U.S., if I shipped the camera to them and could get a U.S. address for them to return the camera, they had no problem fixing it or replacing it. I opted to get it fixed, sent it to them (cost $25 cdn for purolator), used my brother's Fla. address, they shipped it there, his wife was there last week and received it, brought it back this past weekend and voila, I have it back! It's been all told about 2 years since failure. Thanks to all in this forum who posted and provided info.

Noticed bad CCD 5-2007 after not using the camera for 2 years.
Total Recording Time: Less than 2 Hours
Camera was replaced by Samsung 5-2007 with an inferior SP-H363. Samsung Transaction #4001462692 (5-24-2007)
I have not filed any complaint with any authorities.

No complaint with Samsung as yet. I wanted to see how they handled Camera #1 first & it has not been handled to my satisfaction, so I'll keep this camera & see what happens with this class action suit.
No complaints with any authorities yet.

6-22-2007 ~UPDATE~
I called Samsung on 6-18-2007 to voice my complaint about sending me a $199.99 camera to replace a $399.99 camera. The call was answered & I gave the girl my transaction number & told her of my dissatisfaction with the replacement camera, she apologized & asked if I would hold for a minute. I was on hold for quite some time, & she came back on a couple of times to say she was still there & it would only be a few more minutes. Then she passed me to a supervisor who asked what it would take to resolve the matter to my satisfaction. I requested a repaired or refurbished camera of the same model I sent in. I was placed on hold. After a short time on hold the man came back on & informed me that they didn't have any SC-D23's available. He then informed me that the replacement that they sent (SC-D363)was the closest comparable camera that they had to offer as a replacement. I explained that I had accessories (extra batteries, lens filters, etc.) that would not fit the replacement camera & that one of the main reasons for my purchase of the SC-D23 was for the built in light, also the new camera did not have a diopter in the view finder 7 the view finder was fixed whereas the SC-D23 was adjustable. He then offered a pro-rated refund which I agreed to. He asked that I send the receipt, which I faxed to him. He said he would call me back(remember this was on 6-18-2007). I have not received a response from Samsung as yet (6-22-2007).

I was contacted by Samsung USA today & was asked if the problem with me defective camera (#1) had been resolved. I informed Elise (973-601-6002) that it had not & I was not satisfied with the inferior replacement camera. She agreed to refund the original purchase price provided I had the original receipt (which I DO have). Otherwise the wholesale amount of $167.00 would be refunded to me. I will update as this progresses.
