Readable
Thanks Robin for the excellent review. I am a rookie looking to buy a DV camcorder. I have pretty much settled on a vx 2000 and although you compared it with the 950, there was enough reference to help me in my decision. I could care less about the typos and commend you on the organization and readability of your review.

The review was informative but sloppy, with a couple of big time blunders when noting some features. Also, when doing a comparitive review why not do it for the camera that this one is primarily designed to rival, the vx2000!
The trv950 is not meant to compare with either of these two cameras, hence its cheaper price. I would have made those comments whether the reviewer be man, woman, fruit or vegetable. dickhead feminist.

guess what you meant. But thanks to you now
I have just bought an XM2. The manual controls meant I could mimic the picture of the TRV-950
but not the other around.
which is a good camcorder more at home in the plastic toy department!

A bias?

Comparing it to it\'s true competitor, the 2000, would show that this camera isn\'t all it\'s made out to be...

The TRV950 costs less, has lower capabilities and is ina totally different category. A more accurate comarison would be with the Sony VX2000, which beat the GL1 for low light performance. Some grammer mistakes are also confusing - "but I also feel the GL2 excels in other areas that place it ahead of the GL2, making the slight differentiation in picture quality mute." GL2 ahead of the GL2? Mute or moot? Excellent effort but editing/proofreading and double checking of information required...

Having read your review I feel 100% certain that I have done the right thing, and cant wait to get to grips with it.
Being a techno-dunce I doubt I will use many of the manual features (I shoot porn for websites)
but I am sure this is gonna be the kit for me.
Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

Screen Comparisons Aren\'t Just For Monkeys!!!
To begin with this review is far too subjective. Good, bad, and ugly are great for describing ice cream but not camcorders. A modern video camera is packed with countless complexities. CCD’s, lens, shutter, aberrations, and dropped frames just to name a few. Everyone who had ever perused an electronic store can tell you that any $300+ camera produces sharp, clear, colorful images. But how sharp, how clear, how colorful? The only way to demonstrate a camcorders performance is to compare screen captures of actual video from differing lighting conditions (daytime, nighttime, indoors, outdoors). An internet review forum is the perfect place to do direct photo comparisons. No store salesman in the world could compare cameras for a customer in this way. Analog televisions used for previews in stores show only 240 of the 530 lines in the DV format. Beyond this they do it with less sharpness, color and contrast. Be the first kid on the block to do screen capture comparisons for every camcorder you review. As for the ‘good, bad, and ugly’ I stated earlier, this review’s grammar is the latter two.
This monkey’s gotta split!
