JVC GR-D90U Lens Cap Warning

I have owned this camera for 8 months. Constantly gives the lens cap warning in automatic and manual modes. Will only record sound. LCD is black with only the warning. Thanks for help.

Sorry Tugboat. Can't help you. I've got the same problem in my 30U. I left a message with JVC and will follow up this week. Just happened yesterday.

Unhappy Lens Cap Warning

Have any of you guys had any luck.
I had the same problem since early August. I left a message with JVC Tech Support the day after. To this day, I still haven't heard from them

Mine just started to do the same thing! Has anyone had theirs fixed? How much did it cost and what was wrong?

Hello,

My my JVC GR-D31EK started doing this a week ago.

Took it back to currys today, they didn't want to know because it was less than a week over the 12month garuntee. Bought it boxing day last year. Hahaha the people there made me very angry, seeings as it broke on christmas day and i have only just got around to diging out the reciept and them actually being open. Ah well suppossee it is my own fault really for being lazy or something.

Anyway, got it home, and after changing tapes, and turning it off and on, and pluging it into my computer and so on and so forth, basically messing around with it.

Its working again.

So im not sure if this is a loose wire sort of thing or what, but it seems that my camcorder is back to life for the moment anyway.

So to those suffering the same problem, i suggest doing every possible combination of tunring on with tapes in and out and plugged into computer via fiorewire and palying tapes back on it and all that jazz.

So in conclusion i wouldn't think it was a problem such as a catastrophic faliure of some of the hardware, but an intermittent fault caused by whatever, something loose or whatever.

Basically I'm trying to inject some hope into the situation.

Suppose we could all get ours working a little bit and quickly sell them on. hahaha , I jest of course.

Would like to hear how others are getting on with the problem.

Tom.

Well the solution i cam up with was to fiddle with it in all manner of combinations of button pressing and tape changing and opeing and plugging into my fireweire adn turning on and off.

so "experiment" for yourselfs.

It almost sounds like an intermittent electrical connection in the camcorder. Maybe the cable from the CCD to the electronics?
As far as I know, that message comes on when no signal is received from the CCD (all zeros). Lens Cap is an assumption they made for the error message, as that was the most likely cause, but I get it also if it's totally black where the camera is turned on (e.g.: a cave with no lights; in deep woods with no moon). It will go off if I turn on the LEDs on the front (assuming there's something close to illuminate).

Well, I was just at my local FutureShop, and GUESS WHAT ???
Their display model GR-D33 had a "LENS CAP" message. I tried all the things I've posted for users to try and nothing worked. I mentioned it to the sales clerk and he advised he'd seen it too, but also didn't know what to do. I now have to assume it's BROKEN, TOAST.
Either a dead CCD or some component in the electronic circuitry (diode, capacitor, etc). I was wondering if it's caused by extensive, continuous use? Maybe the Camcorder overheats and the circuitry gets damaged if it's left on all day?

I have emailed Technical Support at JVC Canada about this, but am not expecting a detailed reply as I do not personnaly have the problem (yet). IF I get a meaningful solution, I will post it in a "Sticky".

JVC 95u

I did get reply from jvc.. to send it to nearest jvc service for min $50 +. Did not get to know any specific problem..it was i guess general reply from jvc. I like other products from jvc that I have but looks like need to switch in case of cams.. lot of people having this problem suddenly without any reason. Feel just too bad.. used it for exactly a year.
meanwhile pls post on bb any news on this as i dont intend to buy another cam soon.

well it seems my joy was short lived. my camera has reverted back to being broken. and no amount of fiddling is turning up results.

doh, im tempted to open it up and look for loose leads. but hmmmmmmm.

Well the JVC service center must be slow because they give me an estimate and the repair is completed. Dropped it off at 4 in the afternoon and by 10 the next day it was done. They replaced the CCD for a total cost of $161.20. I need to pick it up now.
