D8 tapes an 8tapes

I am thinking about the Sony 460, but I am ignorant of cameras.
Wal-Mart has it for $377.

I am concerned that if I buy this camera I won't be able to get tapes in the near future.

Does this camera have to have special D8 tapers or can it use any 8 tapes for a digital recording

Franco, I have the TRV460. The Hi8 and Digital8 tapes are the same. That is how they are marked when you buy them from Sony and other manufacturers. My TRV460 plays back my old 8mm tapes but I have never recorded on them.

I knew they would play the other 8 tapes that were recorded in analog by another machine.

What concerns me is when I looked at a rack of tapes in a store I saw lots of Mini DV tapes and lots of 8tapes but there were only 3 packages of tapes that said "digital 8 tapes"

I did not know if that meant those were the only tapes I could use in a Sony 460 machine to record a digital video from that machine or can I use any of the 8 tapes for digital recording?

The Sony TRV-460 manual says "You can use standard 8mm and Hi8, Digital8 video cassettes on your camcorder"
