DV 1394 Capture Problem Solution?

Quick background:

I just purchased a brand new JVC GR-D72u. I too had problems with my computer recognizing the camera in the 1394 jack, it was extremely inconsistant and totally hit or miss. After reading just about every post on this forum in reguards to this problem with the JVC's and trying everything suggested nothing worked except for one thing. Buying a FireWire PCI card with a Texas Instruments chipset. Now it works exactly as it should, flawlessly. Doesn't matter what's turned on when or what's plugged in in what order, everytime the camera is put into play mode and the cable is connected, the familiar windows sounds can be heard saying it detected the device succesfully. When the camera is turned off or the cable disconnected, it also works exactly as it should.

Here is exactly what I'm using:

Windows XP SP2
JVC GR-D72u
Belkin 6-Pin to 4-Pin 1394 Cable
Belkin FireWire PCI card with Texas Instruments Chipset

I work at CompUSA so I'll be VERY specific on which FireWire PCI card you must buy. Currently as of this post, it is the ONLY TI chip card we carry in our stores, all others which we may have had in the past are no longer currently stocked in store.

It's in a clear plastic package with white/red insert, "FireWire 3-Port PCI Card" is what it says up top with the Belkin logo to the left. Belkins P/N is F5U503. The UPC # is 722868441442. The CompUSA P/N is 305323. It can also be found on our website here:

http://www.CompUSA.com/products/pro...uct_code=305323

If you were having problems with your 1394 connection and the above corrected it, please post here stating so. If you purchased the above but are still having problems, also please post here with all the details.

Thank you,

Alex

JVC & Texas Instruments Firewire

Thanks for that update Alex, in one of the threads one or two people solved their Firewire problems with JVC by going to the Texas Instruments chipset.

Thumbs up It works!!

After spending hours online with HP and NO help at the JVC website with no solution in site I reached out to the online community.

I am using this camcorder on a new HP Media Center PC and was still having problems.

I was a little skeptical a CompUSA employee recommending a card sold at CompUSA (Belkin F5U503 UPC#722868441442 CompUSA SKU# 305323 - must have the Texas Instrument chipset).

This solution worked for me and I so happy that I took the time to register with camecorderinfo.com and send this reply.

Thanks Alex

Nice post

Alex, just a little rambling. I've never had a problem with your company's generic cards, but then my Dell 5100 seems to have the TI chipset already in it?? Just a plug for your generic "Compusa" labled cards, I think they work great (I have three of them; USB 2.0, Firewire/USB combo and SD card reader) and nope, I don't work for them either. Good stuff.
