SC-L906 Hi-8 Camcorder
Hi, new here (and new to camcorders as well), and I'm thinking about purchasing the Samsung SC-L906 camcorder.
What I would like to know is if its possible to transfer the videos that I take to burn them onto a cd and to edit them, via my computer.
Also any information on the quality of this would also be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

It is possible, but you might need to updrade your computer. Video editing takes a lot of ram and cpu speed. For consumer video you usually need 256 - 512 MB ram, 2GHz+ cpu, 40GB+ hard drive. You will also need software, because even if you have Windows XP, moviemaker is pretty limited (I havn't played with it in a while, but last time I used it I don't remember being able get very good video quality). My favorite software for the consumer market is arcsoft showbiz.
Another thing you will need is a video card that has video in or svideo in. These are around $50 to $150 and higher for more professional products. (For a comparison, if you spend a bit more and get a MiniDV camcorder, the card would only be $30 to $100). They usually come with video editing software, which should be good enough for you if you just want to do basic editing and titling.
Another option is an external usb converter, which are a bit more expensive but don't need to be installed.
As for burning, all you need is a regular CD burner and the included software. Burning a video file to a cd is the same as burning any other file. If you want to be able to play the CD in a dvd player, it all depends on the dvd player (can it play VCD?). You might want a DVD burner if you want better quality, because VCD is not very good quality.
I hope thats enough to get you started, good luck with getting a camcorder.

Yes, SC-L906 is a great camcorder. The fade-in and out is real good. Yes you can create movies with it on your computer. Just go by paulgb's message, and you should be fine.
