Analog to digital conversion using SonyDVD 201

I have acquired the SONY DVD201 camcorder. I have numerous old HI8 tapes recorded on my previous analog Sony camcorder that I would like to convert into Digital format so that I can edit on my PC and then burn to DVD. My new Camcorder supports AV in and I read in some other forum that this is possible. Could someone briefly outline steps to achieve this ? Any advice is appreciated :-)

Cheers,
Papalou.

Note also that I am using USB2.0 to link the Sony DVD201 camcorder to my PC running Windows 2000...

Manual

The steps are detailed in the manual (same as recording from a TV or video), what part of it are you having trouble with ??

OK so I did what it says in the manual about TV and/or manual, being a newbie to this I was not sure wether this applied to analog camcorders. Have had following 2 issues:

1. when playing the captured video in ImageMixer, the sound is mono (one sided) and I only get to connect one audio cable and one video cable (yellow and black cable)

2. when converting to Mpeg2, I loose all audio alltogether as we discussed in the other post yesterday :-(

Talking analog to digital

that sounds like what the cable companys were trying to pull when 'digital cable' first came out sure your box is digital and its a digital signal going through a analog line lol... anyways ... a question i have is ... is it really safe to count on these dvd-rw and -r to last a long time? ive notice even with regular dvd that they deteriate and the label side starts to kinda 'peel up' on some movies for instance a few rentals ive gotten and my road trip dvd movie and my black hawk down dvd. as far as my cd-r cds go the sony been notorious to form strange burn marks on the lable side then peel up. magnovox ones have yet to do it... point is ... can this actualy be prevented? u can care for your cds as much as u want mine are in a cd book absolutely no scratches... but then agian could hot/cold climate do that? now my back up cds for my computer never had this problem but ive had dvds in the car... and thats where most of my cd-r go to die.... so as a tip make sure your dvd-r are keep sakes are stored in a stable climate or risk loosing it! off subject once agian lol

1), you've answered this one your self ... 1 sound cable = 1 chanel of sound. Go to your local hi fi shop and get a spilter. You must split your one mono sound cable to two. Each will be mono of course, but will sound fine.

2) O.K, if I was doing what you are doing this is what I would do personally.
If your not going to edit it, record the movie in VR mode. Get your self a copy of Nero 6.6, import the VR disc and burn to full size disc.
If mild editing then use image mixer to convert to mpeg and edit. You didn't mention what you were using to convert so I'm not sure about the sound thing.
If you want to do some advanced editing record in video or VR then convert to AVI using AutoGK or similar and edit the AVI files.

As for ADCromwell ... what the hell ???? ..... get your own post ... oh and buy some decent quality discs !!!

Talking what the hell

i would hope sony made good quality disks.. ive had many probblems with the sony cd-r 700mb as far as loosing data ect. the dvd-rw cds for the handycam i havent had long enought to notice anything yet. but the sony cd-r 700mb are definatly tempature sensative... do your own experiment with the disks leaving them in your car.. i know may others that have had this probblem even with store bought dvd movies. i have not noiced probblems with memorex cdr 700mb or the esa dvd-r. sony makes good products but their line of speakers are junk and so are their cdr cds
