the black areas in the corners are known as "vignetting." You will not be able to zoom out full wide with the lens attached. View your footage on a professional monitor or your NLE and you'll find it's likely more pronounced than what you see in the LCD or EVF.
haven't heard anything good about digital optics. i wouldn't buy any lenses not made by century optics.
where did you buy your camera? did it come with magic bullet, with the blue sticker on the box, and full U.S. warranty?

Yeah try to stick with century when it comes to lenses. They are expensive but well worth the money.

For perspective, expensive means north of 600 USD (give or take). For casual users, this is steep...1/4th-1/3rd the price of the camera. As such, it is generally reserved for the serious user (those who make a living from their work).

I believe that I have seen the vignetting before as well.
Never fear... it should remain well outside of your Title Safe area and not evident on playback.
For future ref, Century Optics is the way to go.

Cameron, expresscameras.com is not an authorized Panasonic dealer. Which means your camera is likely grey market. If it needs servicing you're not going to get it here in the U.S.
You probably thought you were getting a great deal on your camera. Paid what, $2,500 for a $3,400 camera? But they turned around and screwed you on a crappy lens; which means you paid regular price for your camera (or more) and still need to buy a lens. What else did you have to buy? AC adapter, battery? Trust me, if you didn't buy that lens and other crap, the camera would have been "on backorder." Did they include a free Mack warranty, supposedly worth $400? Mack warranties are cheap. I got a 2-year for $120 bucks from EVS for my DVX.
Don't feel bad. I got taken on a similar ploy (infinitycameras.com, it's usually Brooklyn camera shop, go figure) when I bought a JVC camcorder. They were the lowest price. And they were a lot of trouble to deal with. Rude and pushy. If you call a place and they put you on hold 10 times in 2 minutes, you should use that down time to prepare yourself to be taken for a ride.
Everyone, do yourselves a favor. Purchase your equipment from reputable, authorized dealers like http://www.evsonline.com or http://www.bhphotovideo.com. You'll get the lowest *legit* prices available, great customer service and support, and quality products with full U.S. warranties. If you think a deal is too good to be true, it is. Damn scammers!

Very true, my comments were based on the assumption that you were dealing with honest sellers, not someone selling you a 30 dollar cheapo lens for 699.

Express cameras are a bunch of crooks
Check out the reviews at -

Express Cameras is very bad news.
Re: a good lens - I totally agree with Kiko - Century Optics makes the best wide angle adaptors, hands down. I've used their .7 zoom-through wide angle adaptor on Sony PD-150, and there's no vignetting.
I just bought the .7 wide angle adaptor for my DVX-100a, and it's a substantial piece of glass. I got a very good deal on eBay - on $400 for a lens used once. They retail for about $800, so I was very lucky!

I'm about to buy the 0.5 digital optics lens with a 2x lens. If you zoom a bit, can you not see the vigneting and is the image quality good with that lens. Because i found i very good deal for these two and i don't want to pay 600$ for 1 lens. thx

James1110,
Yes, J&R are reputable. Having lived in NYC for most of the 90's, I frequented the store for my audio and photo needs. They have competitive prices on many items.
My JBL speakers I bought from them for a steal are still running strong 12 years later!
