PDX10 not recognized by WinXP
I'm borrowing a PDX10 from a friend. I'd like to transfer the recorder video to my computer. It was my understanding that I just needed to plug in the IEEE 1394 cable into both the computer and the camera and Win XP would automatically recognize the camera. Then I could use something like Windows Movie Maker or Premiere Elements to capture the video.
However, I can't seem to make Win XP recognize the camera. Am I missing some extra step?
Setup:
Sony DSR-PDX10
Windows XP SP2
IEEE1394 port on a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card

Now working
Well, after 3 days of no love, Win XP suddenlty started recognizing the camera. Must have been that pesky April Weekend bug, or some other similarly undocumente Microsoft Feature

You do NOT have to install anything for firewire to work. If it is not recognising the camera it could be a cable problem or a XP issue.
The drivers you get are for USB which is only for jpg's not video.
Usually the first step in solving this problem is to uninstall the XP device in hardware device management and reinstall it.

Carlosn - a couple possibilities:
1. The camcorder's 1394 port is not active when running off battery?
2. This could be one of several documented XP-SP2/1394 bugs - if you had other devices (esp. storage devices) on the 1394 bus this may be the problem.
3. The driver wasn't working properly and a reboot (along with proper alignment of various planets) cleared up the issue.
As Shmulb stated, you shouldn't "need" to install any device drivers for XP.
Regards,
Greg
