Wow!

Just for everyone's edification, I called the number on the web site and was told that Canon would fix the rewind/eject error on my camera at no cost (other than shipping it to them of course).

I feel this is a very professional gesture on their part. From a marketing standpoint, it is a wise move to keep from having their reputation tarnished which could have an almost incalculable cost to them. I have otherwise had excellent results with many other Canon products including copiers, digital still cameras and an underwater housing.

I hope there can be as many positive posts about the result of action as there have been negative ones from frustrated owners and I hope that everyone here will obtain a beneficial resolution.

Best of luck.

me too

I also called the number on the website, spoke to a service technician, and he took my serial number, name, address, phone, etc...and told me to mail it into their service center in Irvine.

He said that they would fix it free of charge if it is a problem with their hardware. If it is something else that is causing it, they will give me a free estimate. He said it would take 7-14 days.

I will likely drive it down to the service center since I am not too far away from Irvine.

RVD.

Did they say what the problem actually is and what they are doing to repair them?

I got mine back. They said they replaced the video head and cleaned it. No charge. It works but I've only run fifteen minutes of tape through it. We'll see. It is a secondary camera for me at this point.

So what's the verdict?

I'm shopping for an Elura 85 but now that I've been reading these tape error threads, I'm having second thoughts ???

Thanks

I loaned my Canon to a friend and it hasn't been used so I can't say either way if it's fixed or not.

I just got my Elura 50 back from Canon to have the CCD replaced and Remove Cassette problem addressed... for no charge and out of warranty. I've taken about an hour of video so far with no problems. I was just wondering what everyone else's results were after repair?
