"Colour distortion" problem?? with VX200

Hi!
Hope someone has some ideas about this problem.

A few months ago I started having a problem with my Sony VX200
when filming. The colours would suddenly go "crazy". Greens and reds
couours "jumping" on the screen but following the outlines of the image.
I am not explaining it very well but it may ring a bell with someone.
Now it is happening most of the time. If I playback a tape which was
recorded ok then I do not get the problem which hints that it may
be something to do with the CCD. (it also happens before playing the record button).

I could send a still of a typical image that shows what I mean.

Any help appreciated!

Thanks!

Alke

Alke,
If I read your post correctly is sounds like that everything works OK except for the image in the LCD swing out monitor. If that is the case then there may be a problem with the cable to the LCD.

Is the picture OK in the viewfinder?

If the camera is connected via the RCA connectors to a TV with the camera in standby mode is the picture on the TV OK?

Dear Mike,

Thank you for your reply. I have been away.
I get the colour distortion also in the viewfinder and it's also recorded onto the film.

Any other ideas??

Thanks.

Alke,

Since you get the bad color in the viewfinder, in the monitor, while in standby, and it is recorded to tape it seems the trouble is associated with a CCD or the circuits that digitize the CCD outputs.

Before you put the camera in for repair I would suggest that you hit the reset button inside the monitor panel and remove the battery for about 20 minutes. Also check all the switches and menu items to be sure something is not set funny although the RESET should put all the menu items to factory default.

Has the camera ever been subjected to a drop, extreme temperature, or moisture?
Good Luck

Dear Mike,

Thanks for your suggestions. I tried the reset but no luck.
I also believe it must be something to do with the CCD etc.
I will have a Sony agent look at it in the coming weeks.
Thanks again for your input.

All the best.

Alke
