Angry My Camera Doesn't Produce an Image anymore

Out of the blue--I turned on my TRV-38 and the screen was black. I figured the lens cap was on, but no--there's no image on the LCD or viewfinder. It's just black.

I can't take stills or video, but I can view previously recorded tape.

To put it mildly--I'm really piste off--this camera is less than 2 years old. I have a 4-year Mack warranty--do they cover this problem? I'm not expecting to pay a dime for this as the camera has been babied all its life and it seems to be an electrical malfunction.

Anyone else know about this? Wanna buy it? I've got an Ikelite housing for it as well as numerous accessories.

There are many posts with your problem, "BLACK SCREEN SYNDROME" (It even has a nickname to the problem). Here is the popular post for TRV38:

If you are interested in other Sony camcorder models TRV33 and TRV22, TRV250, etc. here they are with similiar problem:

As far as Mack post insurance, since your camcorder problem is not caused by your negligence or due to normal usage of wear and tear, I would be surprised if it didn't cover. I understand the problem lies in the CCD BLOCK ASSEMBLY.

Hmm, this sounds like the problem I had fixed on my 250 a couple years ago. I seem to remember the name CCD BLOCK ASSEMBLY, and the most frustrating part was that the repair shop couldn't get the replacement part (block?) for months....and charged me like $150-200. I can't remember any details at the moment....should dig out my info on this.
