Generic batteries off Ebay Warning

Some batteries and dealers on Ebay are better than others.

DO NOT BUY from ACCSTATION, based in Arcadia, California (same company goes by other names on Ebay too). Horrible and slow customer service and their batteries were rubbish. I bought a Sony NP-F970 copy battery for $34.00 inc shipping and sales tax, which claimed to be be rated at a massive 6800 mAh, but in reality was lower powered than a much cheaper 5400 mAh. I sent back THREE replacements for exchange as their batteries were low powered rubbish they kept sending me. Each new battery was lower powered than the last and dispatching replacements took weeks at a time. In the end I insisted on a refund and two weeks later refunded by PayPal but minus the 8.25% sales tax, which they decided to keep (which they are obliged by law to refund to me). I have sent several emails to query this, but they just don't reply. They really couldn't care less and their products are inferior compared to others on Ebay.

On the other hand I bought a NP-F970 from usadigishop based in NY, NJ in June. After 3 months I started to get the "For Inforlithium Batteries Only" message and the camera shuts off . I emailed usadigishop and within minutes got a reply from their customer service apologising for the inconvenience and offering a replacement, which they promptly did for me. Excellent service plus their NP-F970s 6100 mAh battery gives me 575 minutes on my Sony HVR-Z1U.

When shopping for NP-F970 batteries on Ebay, look out for the ones rated around 6100 mAh as they are almost the same price as the 5500 mAh, but will last nearly an extra one or two hours.

I bought a battery charger and a NPFF71 battery off Ebay. Shipped from Hong Kong and was advertised as Sony original. I knew going in...it's probably a Sony knock off….It was…The charger did not work and you could scratch off the grey pant. I send it back waiting for a replacement….The battery only would charge to 60%. Will have to see how long the battery will last. Oh well.

Ebay Batteries

The ebay prices are very attractive. Wow, Np-FP90 for only $34 including shipping! The batteries shipped from china or hong kong appear to be in official Sony packaging. I did note the UPC number on packaging from US retailers are difference than those displayed by these companies. I inquired with the ebay merchants and they said they are the same batteries. The back of the batteries appear to be different than the ones in the US. The US batteries have the recycle seal.

Is there a merchant on ebay that you have confidence in?

Good place to buy batteries...

I have bought batteries from batteries.com. They have excellent customer service and offer:

- Lifetime Warranty
- 45 Day Money Back Guarantee (no questions asked!)
- Quality Assurance
- Price Match Guarantee

I bought a replacement battery from them for my iPAQ and my Elura 100 and haven't had any problems with either.

I recently bought two generic batteries on Ebay from a company named Itrimming for $7.75 each plus shipping of $6.99 on the first one and $2.99 on the second. These were replacements for the JVC BN-428U Li-ion Battery. They appear to be working just fine. They both charged without any problems and I got almost two hours of recording on them, about the same as with the O.E.M JVC battery. They look identical to the JVC battery, but are 1 ounce heavier. They don't get hot either charging or using them.

They appear to work just as well as the JVC batteries, that cost me $96.00 for an extra.

I've bought batteries off of eBay several times and got really good batteries each time. In fact they were far better than the stock batteries that came with my cameras. Only one of the places I bought from was the Hong Kong dealer people like. I've got good battereies from a couple of other places with no problems.

I may have spoken too soon about my generic battery purchase. I was so pleased with the two I bought on Ebay that I ordered two more. One of the two from the second purchase was defective. It would not charge. I returned it yesterday for a replacement.

I suppose the name-brand batteries could be defective as well.
