Fixing Dead Pixels on the JVC DV300U
I have received a private request for the procedure to fix dead pixels on the JVC GY-DV300U camcorder. I decided to post the procedure for the benefit of others who may encounter this problem.
The procedure is as follows:
Start with the camera on manual exposure. Camera A or B may be used, just so the exposure is in manual mode.
Close the lens completely and turn on low lux.
To access the hidden menu, while holding both the PLAY and STOP buttons at the same time, then press the MENU button and hold for a few seconds. The color bars will be displayed behind the hidden menu. Pressing just the PLAY button will remove the color bars leaving just the menu.
Select CAMERA1. This takes you to a second screen.
Select ERROR DETECTION. Change CANCEL to EXECUTE and select.
This screen will say ERROR DETECT and after a few seconds, END
PLEASE POWER OFF will appear.
When the camera is powered back on, it will still be in low lux mode with the lens closed.
This should fix any dead pixels.

Thanks....Ken Freed mailed me the same....I will keep this as a Sticky for reference:
Subject Pixel Blemish Correction for GY-DV300U
CCD cameras can develop CCD blemishes where a pixel or two can appear white in the image. These may be caused by atmospheric radiation and also by manufacturing impurities that begin to show after years of use.
This is so common on CCD cameras by all manufacturers that we all build into our pro cameras the ability to detect and correct these blemishes.
On the GY-DV300U camera this process is provided in a Service Menu accessed by holding the STOP button in while pressing the MENU button.
The camera should have been warmed up for at least two hours, if not more, before this proceedure is performed.
This service menu on the GY-DV300U will show a line that says Camera 1. Turn the SELECT dial to move the menu cursor to Camera 1 and press the SELECT dial in. The next menu has an item called Error Detect. Turn the SELECT dial down to this item, select it and then select EXECUTE. After several seconds the correction process completes. Hopefully the blemish is gone.
After performing the process and correcting the blemishes, power the camera off to clear the service menu.
However there are a fews things for you to note about this process:
The process only conceals blemishes that show at 0db of gain. Blemishes that show at 6db, 9db or 18db will not be corrected. Also there is a threshold that the blemish must be above to be detected. Over time those

Gratefulness
Hello:
For several years I have been having a JVC DV300U with the problem of pĂ*xel died. I bought it in the USA but I am from Chile. When finding a dead pixel on the screen I had to pay very expensive to ship the camcorder to the technical service of the USA. But this did not solve the problem.
I was years without being able to use the camera professionally, and today I have recovered it thanks your disinterested article. I only write you to give all my gratefulness by so useful explanation that means much for my and my company.
Thanks Kent and all that help on this website.
