eLURA 65 - Stuck Zoom
I have an Elure 65 that I bought in September of last year. Recently when I turn it on, the zoom is stuck in telephoto mode, and it keeps zooming in till it reaches the end. Even if I completely go all the way to Wide-Angle and let go of the button, it will slowly zoom in.
Anyone know of any fix? Canon tech supprt said to pull out both batteries and see if it would reset, but that didn't work. Would hate to send this in to be repaired.
Any suggestions? Maybe new firmware?
Many thanks!

Zoom Problem
I also have this problem with my elura 65. It happened just after it got off warranty! I had it 'repaired'. They changed the zoom assembly ($175 later). It's now acting up again (intermitently). Anyone else had this problem?

Elura 60 Zoom Stuck
My Canon Elura 60 zooms to the max by itself. It will not stay at wide mode. Any suggestions?

Elura 65 zoom problem
I have seen a number of complaints about this zoom problem but no posts about having it resolved. Has anyone had their zoom problem repaired or should I just write this one off before I waste any more time or money on it???

elura zoom stuck
I bought mine in 12/04, used it maybe 3 times. 2nd time, it zoomed in, so I just held it in place (at wide). 3rd time at turning it on, it zoomed and now I cannot get it to return at all.
A recall of free repair or replace with different type would be right.

Have you tried to get Canon to repair it for you for free?

don't buy canon
The stuck zoom is a common problem with Canon. On mine, the zoom would auto zoom in both rec and playback. I have no fix for rec mode, but in playback if you bring up the zoom menu on the screen the problem goes away. You don't have to select anything on the menu but you do have to keep it displayed all the time while you play back. Luckily this doesn't get recorded when I copy onto my dvd recorder.
This is a widespread problem with Canon but i have not heard any response from Canon. Just don't buy Canon anymore.
It would be interesting if camcorderinfo.com could ask Canon about this.
I don't believe it is a hardware problem but something that can be fixed in firmware because of my playback 'fix.'
It just a matter of enough voices to push Canon.
I myself will never buy another Canon product again.
They slick marketing and packaging but their beauty is only skin deep.

tough love for stuck zoom problem
I have an Elura 60 that also has the stuck zoom problem.
I surfed around a little and saw a recommendation to
smack the camera on its base with the palm of your hand,
along with some testimonials to its effectiveness.
I tried it - a couple of smacks to its bottom and I'll
be damned if that didn't unstick the zoom.

Canon Zoom Problem
I know what's wrong with the Canon Zoom. Probably the same for Samsung and Panasonic. It wouldn't be firmware or it would be consistent and never have left the dvelopment stage.
It has to be taken apart and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone not accustomed to micro-tools and/or surface mount components. Surgeons hands are also required along with good eyesight.
You can reach me at mikecpage@comcast.net and we can work out a deal. Not looking for any serious cash but I'm not giving this away and it took a good day to find the solution. Sorry for that guy who spent $175 (and anyone else) on a perfectly good motor assembly - that wasn't the problem. Although that's a fair price to do such work.
Thanks,
Mike
