Exclamation Still Pix numbering

Owner for about a year of a Hitachi MV580A. To get best possible quality from stills, use SD Card, but find an interesting problem when it comes to numbering.

My primary camera for still digital pix is a Sony and the camera remembers the sequential number assigned to the last picture taken in the camera. My standard practice is to take the memory card out of my camera, stick it into the reader on my computer and move the pictures from the card to my computer. This then frees up all the space on my card and I put it back in my camera for reuse.

Key is that the camera remembers the number last used so that when I copy more to the card, no numbers are reused.

In the VM580A, if I follow the same process when I move the pictures to my computer the card increments back down to 0, so the next time I take still pix to the SD card the pictures start at 0001 again. Can anyone offer any suggestions, or eductate me so I know what I am doing incorrectly?

Chuck
