JVC GRD72US Digital Video Camera
I bought this camera about two years ago and have only used it 10 - 12 times. I did need it today because it's my daughter's 12 birthday and we bought a horse for her. This is a 'HUGE' deal because she has been riding since she was 4 years old and we had told her when she was 12 she would be old enough for the responsability of a horse. She doesn't know it is coming at noon and it is one of the biggest moments in her life so far. Guess what, the camera came on with a "Lens Cap" error message this morning as I get ready for the 'Big' surprise. Trying to find a quick resolution to the problem I googled the error message and found out this is a warranty problem. However, after contacting JVC, I was told that my serial number which begins with 178 is unaffected because they have only identified serial numbers beginning with 169 or lower to be affected. My husband is out buying a new camera while I post this, obviously, not a JVC. I will post this on every internet site I can find over the next week so everyone will be forwarned that they will miss out on recording the most important moments in their children's lives if they count on a JVC product.

Lens cap error
Hi.
I just joined due to looking for info on my GR-D33U and a lens cap error and fuzzy screen/display.
This site really was great,I called the JVC # and they told me what to do and where to send it so I hope to have it back soon?
I'll post the results when I get it back!!
Thanks for the info,

What a load. "A small quantity..." Right.
Well, my GRD-201US is -not- on the list, yet it has the dreaded Lens Cap error.
I think all that claptrap about limited model numbers and limited serial numbers being "affected" is based solely on who initially joined the class-action, and not on reality.
At least Sony and some others are replacing all models built with the faulty CCDs.
I definitely -won't- be buying another JVC.

Does anyone know if JVC is still repairing the camcorder without charge? The original post in 2005 said JVC would repair free of charge until October 1, 2007. Any chance they have extended the date?
