Why did you create a forum just for the DCR-DVD505. What excally so special about this camcorder? If your answer is "because it had some cool features", then, why didn't you create forum for each indavidal camcorder?

I suspect this forum was created because this camcorder has a big CMOS CCD and it also has a larger LCD screen. What other new camcorder has the CMOS CCD? That alone makes this one worth it's own forum. It is going to be fun testing it when mine does arrive next month. So let's just wait and see and then we all can decide.

They have a forum for the 403-405 and the Pal versions like the 803 as well. I suspect this forum will be very active when someone does finally get a 505 and talks about it. Here is to all popular camcorders having their own forum.

The Smooth Slow Recording feature is unique so far also. The "unofficial" HDR-HC3 HighDefinition camcorder is supposed to use the same CMOS sensor and offer this feature but the world will get to examine it first in the DVD505.

Still, I admit that I may have been hasty in creating this forum apart from folding the 505 into the 403, etc. forum. Time will tell, but I thought it was different enough and that there'd be unique-to-505 discussion to warrent a seperate forum.

I think you did the right thing opening this up. The 505 is a unique Camcorder. For one it has the Slow motion, It has CMOS CCD instead of a conventional CCD (a Good sized one at that) The Clear Vid technology to make 4 megapixel stills (looking forward to seeing that) the 3.5 inch LCD is special. Granted I have seen the 403 and 405 reviews and as good as the video is on them it will be hard to beat those. going to be interesting to see those results. The $200 difference in price is not that great either. All in all once we actually get them then this will rock. The only thing about this is maybe it was opened too soon. After does anyone have one yet. My order from sony still shows not in stock and shipping on or before March 17th Almost (ouch) a month away yet.

you can see 3 hi-resolution still photos taken with the upcoming HDR-HC3 (same CMOS sensor as the DVD505) by reading this thread:
http://www.sonyhdvinfo.com/showthread.php?t=4084

should give you a reasonable idea what still shots from DVD505 may look like.

Those pictures are very sharp. I am so looking forward to getting this camcorder. It is going to be interesting to see the video that it puts out as well. From what I have seen so far it is going to be very good indeed. Probably just a bit better than a 403 and 405 models. (I Sure hope so)

I ordered my DCR DVD505 on 2/2/2006. I received an email from SonyStyle that it has shipped effective 2/25/2006. Fedex still does not have the information on their web site. It does say I should have it by the 5th of March(Sonystyle Website). So far I have gotten 40 DVD -RW disks from ebay a case, a spare battery a DVD +RW and a Memeory Stick Pro Duo 256 Meg stick for the camcorder. Playing with the case the disks and the Memory stick is not a lot of fun. I will post my impressions as soon as I have the chance to play with this camcorder. Really looking forward to this coming in. Anything you guys want to have tested when I get it? Just ask.
