Recording from VHS to Optura 400

I have some raw footage from an installation here at work. We have an Optura 400. Using the cable that came with the camera, I plugged in the yellow/white plugs into the out of the VCR and plugged the 8th inch male into the IN AV port of the camera. I play the VHS, and I press record on the camera, and I get nothing. Is there a tip/trick to make this work? I really need to get this raw data onto mini dv to redo the installation video.
Any help would be appreciated

The Canon Optura 400 has "Pass Through" (Analog-Digital Converter). You may have to remove the tape and you will definately have to put the Canon in the "AV -> DV Out" to On which is not a default setting. Look in the manual for "Analog-Digital Converter"
