Another problem playing back DVD

I got the DVD505 a month ago and recorded a few disks on a trip. After I finalzed them, the disks cannot be played on my DVD player. The menu shows up, but when I select a scene, it doesn't play.

I use DVD+RW (Memorex) disks and recorded in HQ mode. The DVD player is a new model by Lite-On, supposedly able to play all types of formats.

Anyone has similar problem? Any suggestions? Since I'm new to DVD camcorders, any kind of help would be appreciated...

Yes, I can play the disks on the computer. But the DVD player can only play the menu, not any of the tracks.

Does your DVD player have the necessary center hub needed for playing mini DVD's?

Have you tried playing the discs in a different DVD player?
Sometimes players won't play a particular brand of disc, so try a different brand and also try a -R/RW.
You can copy the .VOB files in the DVDs VIDEO_TS folder to your hard drive and burn a full size DVD and play that.

Mike

Thank you. I'll try a different DVD player.

Another (sort of) related question: Is there a way that I can burn VCD or SVCD, instead of DVD, from my miniDVD disks? I have a laptop that only has CD burner, not DVD burner.

If you only have a CD drive, you can't copy directly off the DVD. You will have to connect with USB, and copy the files that way. Once they are on your PC, you can author a (S)VCD as easily as a DVD. You will loose picture quality doing this, so I suggest getting a DVD burner ASAP. They are cheap.

derrich22,

I am a newbie to DVD camcordeers and have owned the DVD505 for only a few weeks. But in attempts to help, I have read that +R/RW discs do not need to be finalized to play on players that accept the + format discs. Just as something to try, unfinalize the +RW disc and see if it will then play in your Lite-On player.
