Ok fill us in (or myself at least) as to what AVCHD is? My assumption is something High Definition or a Hard Drive?

I am totaly new on this so here it goes.
If i record with an HD camcorder and want to playback with the analoge cables on a normal wide screen tv is that possible or do I need an LCD tv with a HDMI terminal?
I think I want the Sony SR1 or the other one SR100. But i'm not sure.

Thanks,
Erwin.

The SR1 offers component video out. So, you can connect it to a high definition TV.

AVCHD .m2ts files in Pinnacle 10.7?

What would be the path to taking my .m2ts files from Sony HDRSR1 into a HD usable file that Pinnacle 10.7 would edit and then export HD for playback on standard DVD player?

There is no such path. Standard DVD players will not play back HD content. There are a few non-standard players that will support playback of XviD, DivX, and MS WMVHD encoded DVDs. However, that means you will need software to convert the .m2ts files to one of those formats and Pinnacle will not do that. It has been reported by some that TMPEGenc 4 with codecs from PowerDVD 7 will read and transcode the .m2ts files. YMMV. However, this all means that you will have to buy a new DVD player and new software to see if it will work. Also, you may need to buy a new computer with fast dual core CPU(s) to play it back and edit it.

I have made a search online, it seems to me that PS3 actually does know how to play the AVCHD format, can I verify that?

That is correct. And also AVCHD compliant Blu-ray players.
