.....opinion on NON original Batteries!?
Hi there,
I finally got the DCR-SR90e, and it's quite a great camcorder.
My previous was a Canon Video8, 11 years old. Technology moves
forward. I guess!
But here's mi question, I want to get another spare battery but have
some doubt's about NON original which has the lower price on their side
against duration, power/components quality which could lead to sipkes!?
Or not being a durable as original!? (With non original Canon batteries I
used to have this problem, but at that time(mid '90) just alcaline where
available)
Another thought: Does the infolithium work with NON original sony Batteries?
Please advice and thanks.

I have read in other forums that early HC1's would run without the INFO type batteries but they would just give an error message when trying to estimate remaining runtime. Updated HC1's toward the end of the production run would not run at all without the original INFO type batteries. I do not know if this is true for the SR100 I just bought because I only have Sony brand bat's. I may order one off eBay and see how things go. Anyone else try them? I would like to know as well.

No Success
I wondered about this also (Sony batts are quite expensive). I attempted to do a lot of research, reading a number of digital camera and digital camcorder forums, reviews, etc.
In general, EBay was quite dodgy experience for most people. A few people said they purchased non-oem batteries and have had reasonable success with them. I also seem to think recall were folks with older cameras (non Info-Lithium), but can't be 100% sure.
After checking out a number of on-line companies, I purchased from SterlingTek (hope it's OK to mention them). I decided to purchase from them after ready many people's success stories in purchasing replacement batteries for all types of equipment from SterlingTek and their excellent level of service. Unfortunately, the generic NP-90 I purchased for my SR100 wouldn't get past the "Use InfoLithium" message. Fortunatley, SterlingTek said they would credit me the entire shipping fee (I had purchased other Canon batteries), plus the cost of the NP-90 battery. Nothing lost except my time (note: the generic replacements for my Canon work like a charm).
I think we're stuck with OEM for the SR-100. Just looking for a good deal. (A little OT, but I'm also thinking about either the Boom Mic or bluetooth mic - haven't decided yet).

I did some looking today and saw that someone in Germany is selling INFO replacement batteries. They clam that the circuitry in their batteries will mimic that of the Sony batteries and they are compatible. I however doubt anytime soon that I will be ordering a battery from Germany.

Warning! Do Not Buy Non-oem Batterys!
Guys, I have tried some non-OEM battery's on my HC96 and a friends HC26 and they do no work! It's a long story and i know for a fact that non-OEM batterys do not work on 2005 and 2006 Sony camcorders. You must only use Sony batterys! Trust me, you buy a non-OEM battery and then it will not be compatible! So believe me please!

Thanks to all for advice.
Finally I got an iriginal Sony NP-FP71(about 200 mins of recording).
Spent some more money but I'm shure that it will work.
Cheers,
Mars.

I just bought a non-Sony, non-Infolithium battery from Ebay. When I put the new generic battery on the camera DCR-SR100, after about 5 seconds it says "Please use Infolithium battery" and shuts down.
So...I will only use Sony batteries. Love the camera though!
