CANON MVX30I/Optura 500/400

Hi, i want to purchase a low budget camcorder and i came across the CANON MVX30I on the comet website. http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/616_261785.html

The website priced it at £300 which is affordable for me, so i went to check what reviewers say. All of them said it was good except camcorderinfo.com, the rating of this camcorder is 101. Thts pathetic, why does it have such low rating?
Also, does this camcorder have good resolution and video quality?

Thanks

EDIT: Ive read that this camcorder has awful battery life, how long is it, this camcorderinfo, com does not say

That does not say much. I guess it might depend on who the other reviewers were...

The Optura 400 and 500 were rated in 2004 or earlier which was a differenent rating system than 2005 and newer. Camcorderinfo.com started using Imatest Imaging Software in the beginning of 2005 to test the actual measurable resolution. This test is only reliable when compared to other camcorders using the same test and that the tests were done properly. Normally in this case the larger the number the better the resolution. In the past it has been measured by photographing a special test chart of which there have been many types of test charts and looking at the test lines to see how close they can be and still be able to tell them apart. The vertical and horizontal resolutions were then given. The software web site is at www.imatest.com . It has some pretty interesting information and explanations in it. So for that group the Optura 400 and 500 was rated 18th and 19th overall on page http://www.camcorderinfo.com/ratings.php.
