is it that good?
Is Womble so good that nobody posts in this section of the forum because they have no problems with it? i'm curious...

The Board is New
The Womble discussion board is new - it was just added last week. I've just started using it with my DCR-SR100 and love it. No problems so far for me.

Good luck with the SR100. I'm kind of a newbie myself - have had mine for two weeks and just made a great DVD from our vacation last week.
As far as software, I'd encourage you to download the free 30 day trial versions of Womble and Ulead - they seem to be the ones most often recommedend when editing MPEG video. It's great that you get fully functional versions to try out and see what's for you.
Ulead seems to have more features, but for me was very buggy - kept freezing and shutting down so I had trouble getting much done with it. Womble has the features that I need - some minor editing, adding pictures and music, titles and is very easy to use - that's the extent that I have gone to, and frankly don't see myself going much futher as I'm using the SR100 for family stuff. But keep in mind, you can't actually burn the DVD with Womble. My computer has Nero, and it works fine to burn the Womble edited stuff onto DVD. Ulead allows you to use its program for burning.
I love the ability with Womble to quickly transfer to computer, edit, and burn a few DVD's.
Right now, Womble costs 99 bucks, and Ulead is 89.

hey jim,
doesn't WOMBLE also have a upgraded DVD burning feature?
i just got my CAM lst night, haven't had time to even open it up.
i plan to do very little editting, if none at all. i'm looking for the most simple software to use and have to everyone's warnings, to no tuse the software that came with the CAM.
after doing some research on this forum, i think that i'm going to go with womble, with the understanding that WOMBLE was a one stop shop(cam to pc to dvd) at least that's what i thought. can you or anyone clearifiy this for me. thanks

Womble: does not include DVD BURNING!
Lo39Cal;
Good that you ask about Womble DVD. The regular Womble ( without DVD functions) is strictly an mpeg2 editor. You may output edited mpeg2 files, but this basic version does not offer DVD authoring, or burning.
Womble Mpeg Video Wizard DVD: adds a nice DVD Authoring capability --- but, does not include a DVD BURNING function. Meaning, that one can author superb DVD Folders from edited mpeg2 projects, which require a separate Burning program, in order to create a DVD from the DVD Folder content.
If you already have NERO, or other DVD burning program, you'll have to rely upon it for BURNING your DVD Disk.
Price of Womble Mpeg Video Wizard DVD is more than that of Ulead VideoStudio 10; the latter which includes capability to author and burn DVD's. No doubt you're wondering why the Womble program costs more, and yet offers less functionality than the Ulead "equivalent" Mpeg2 program? Well, with my owning both programs, I can only say that Womble is initially more intuitive than VS10, and most might consider it easier and smoother to work with. Both are capable of preserving 5.1 surround audio in your projects but, like I said, Womble does not include DVD BURNING capability.
Although I use Ulead VS10 Plus, far more than I do WMDVD; I'm glad that I purchased WMDVD, as it comes in handy when editing and authoring projects that I'm in a hurry to assemble and output.
Hope this helps,
VM

VM  ,
thanks, you definitly cleared that up for me.
i do have nero already, although WOMBLE does not have a burning feature, i think i'll be going with WOMBLE anyway. just from reading from previous post regarding ULEAD, there seems to be alot of complaints on it's operation. being that i'll be doing very little if any editting, i'd like the most simple/user friendly program there is. would you agree VM, that WOMBLE is more suited for my needs?
thanks again

Future considerations
Lo39Cal;
I'm sure you'll be more than satisfied with Womble. However, if you anticipate buying an HD camcorder, UVS10 Plus is more future proof. Womble currently doesn't allow HD editing; whereas UVS10 Plus not only allows HDV editing, it also allows HDV DVD authoring and burning.
As for complaints others experience with UVS10 plus ... I've experienced none, except a handful that I caused myself by rushing the rendering process. I've owned a lot of different video editing programs ( and still do), and UVS10 Plus and Womble Mpeg DVD Wizard are my preferred video editors ( consumer level).
Should you go with Womble, I recommend the more expensive Mpeg DVD Wizard version, else you won't be able to create a DVD Folder with the lesser-costing one. That said, you'd have to produce an edited Mpeg2 file and then author it in Nero (Folder and Burning), were you to go with the basic Womble program.
Good luck,
VM

When you mention Nero being the program necessary to burn the video to a dvd, are you speaking of a particular Nero program?
My external Sony dvd-ram drive came with a Nero cd which allows me to view the footage on the dvd-ram disc, but I didn't play around with it enough to see a burning function (unless that function doesn't exist with what I have).
Are you speaking about a different Nero? Mine is Nero ShowTime Essentials. Is this strictly for viewing what's in the drive? I suspect it is but just would like to be sure.

Full NERO Burning Rom program
Dk4130;
Yes, NERO Showtime is just for viewing various video file formats. The full NERO 7 package includes NERO BURNING ROM for burning HD-DVD and Standard Definition DVD's. There are any number of other such DVD authoring and burning programs, but ... with your camcorder being a DVD model, you should be able to play in in a DVD player without need of further burning software, right?
Hope this answers your question.

Thanks, I figured Nero that came with my dvd-ram drive was just for viewing what's in the drive.
While my camcorder is a dvd model, it writes on dvd-ram *and* dvd-r discs. I'm 99.9% sure that my dvd player hooked up to my tv won't play dvd-ram, and possibly not dvd-r either. But I can just pop the disc into the external drive I bought and watch what I recorded.

Digitized out from womble?
Anyone else have a digitized look on the output monitor in the womble software? Once I burn to DVD seems fine but within the program the output looks horrible...

Anyone know if womble will work on a mac pro under boot camp and xp or have tried it? Will womble use all 4 cores? I have a SR100 and would like to edit without converting it to DV like I have to under iMovie.
Thanks
Randy
