Here's a real problem for you with the 505
I do not even know where to begin, so I will try to do this as clearly as possible but I am completely frustrated. I received my Sony 505 camcorder yesterday and am using it with -dvdrw discs made by Sony. I format the disk and video format, and then record video as normal, after that I finalize the disk, imported into my DVD drive of my computer. I open the video with win DVD, and view the video as normal. After I finish watching the video, I take t I take the DVD out of the computer and put it into the camcorder to unfinalize it. I am able to do this may be once or twice, but after about the second time Inserting into my DVD drive, and then putting it back into my camcorder, I can no longer unfinalize it, and I get the error message that says, "recording to disk is disabled." I am not able to get into the menu to unfinalize the disk. Nothing seems to work and when I put it back into the computer it seems as though the computer has lost the ability to read it and all is lost. When I put it back into the camcorder it will not recognize the disk and will tell me that recording has been disabled or access to disk is denied. I just bought three brand-new Sony DVDrw- discs yesterday, and they are all rendered useless now. I do not understand what is going on but it seems as though something is happening from the time the disk is in the computer, and from what I put it back into the camcorder after viewing it on my computer's DVD drive. I have been on the phone with Sony technical support at least a half-dozen times, and they do not seem to think anything is wrong with the camera, but that something is wrong somewhere and somehow with my computer's DVD drive. Have any of you ever heard of this type of problem, and if so, is there anything I can do to save these discs I just paid $15 for, and how do I prevent this from happening. Instead of enjoying my new camcorder, I am frustrated and not enjoying anything here at all, so would appreciate anyone's help very very much.

Hi
From your description it sounds that the camcorder's unfinalization process makes the media somehow unuseable.
I don't think that your PC has something to do with this problem because it just reads the disk and does not write to it.
I would spend another -rw media and do the same again but do not put the disk into your PC's drive:
-record some video with the cam
-finalize the disk
-view video on camcorder only
-unfinalize the disk
-record some more video etc.etc.
If the problem still exists then call Sony again and tell them that the problem can be reproduced only by using sony components(cam and disk).

Actually, it sounds like Sony has a bug in their copy-protection code. Originally, the spec would allow ONE copy to be made, which is what is happening to you, if you can write twice. Sounds like possibly they haven't "fixed" the microcode for RW's to have unlimited RW and either the computer OS code or the camera OS code might be ker-floppin' the disk.
This is just speculation, but from what you are describing, it's sounds just like the Sony copy protection kicking in..
Cheers,
Rick
