Panasonic vdr-d300 for $450

Hello everyone.

I posted this in the Panasonic forum but no one has responded so hopefully I get some opinions here.

I am in the market for a dvd camcorder and have read all the reviews. I am looking at Panasonic vdr-d300 and Sony dvd505. At Best Buy they have a Panasonic display model vdr-d300 for $450. It comes with full warranty and everything that it is supposed to come with except the box. The cheapest I found the sony dvd505 is $739. Only thing concerns me is low light conditions which it sounds like the sony has the edge. Is it worth almost $300 for that better feature. Will I be able to tell a big difference. Keep in mind I will probably keep the cam for 5-8 years and am using it for family video and vacations.Thank You all for your input......Anthony

Anthony007,

I am not familiar with the Panasonic D300 but I have had the DVD505 for several months and continue to be impressed with the camcorder. Like yourself, I purchased my camcorder for family events and to capture my grandchildren. I have been very pleased with the PQ of the DVD505 even in low light conditions, like birthday parties with dimly lit rooms.
To my way of thinking, $300 broke down over 5-8 years is a pittance to ensure the best quality of video possible for family memories. I really don't think that you will have any regrets going with the Sony DVD505.

Joe

Hi
I would take the D300.
It has better video performance at day-light than the Sony due to its 3CCDs but is weaker in low-light.
It has better image stabilization(OIS) than the sony and you can get it for 300$ cheaper than the Sony.

I just ordered the DVD505 tonight from newegg. I should have it by thursday. With so many options out there it was a tough choise but I am glad I don't have to read any more camcorder reviews for awhile. LOL. The low light Issue was the reason I went for the sony. I will know when I get it if its all its supposed to be. Im sure it will blow my Panasonic vhs-c camcorder (that I have had for 10 years) away. Thanks for your opinions guys....Anthony
