Re-encoding all audio if one clip edited

I am using Womble DVD to edit files from a JVC hard disk camcorder. The files have a .mod extension, but they are mpeg 2 files (specifically, the video is 720x480 29.97fps 9200Kbps, and the audio is AC3 48000Hz stereo 384Kbps).

If I assemble a project from ten clips, with no edits of any kind, the DVD encoder shows that everything will be “stream copied” without any re-encoding.

If I edit the video only in one clip, and none of the audio, the DVD encoder shows that that clip’s video will be re-encoded, but all the audio will still be streamed.

However, if I edit any audio at all, even if it’s only in one clip, the DVD encoder shows that all the audio will be re-encoded.

Is there any way to avoid this? I’m guessing that audio takes a lot less time to re-encode than video, but for a big project it might be worth saving that time.

Any replies welcome.

Thanks
