Sony CCD-TR940 Hi-8 question

Hi,

I know this is primarily a digital camcorder site, so if no one here can answer my question, but knows of a site that might be helpful...please provide it.

Anyway, here's my problem. My camcorder is recording in spurts. That is, it will record ok for about 5 seconds and then fade to blue screen for about 3 seconds. This cycle is constantly repeated. Playback of previously recorded tapes seems to be normal. My initial thought is that a recording head may be out of alignment, and I'm thinking this because I possibly may have had a pants hanger fall on it. I haven't used the camcorder for a couple months, and I just realized that I sort of remember that happening.

Does this recording phasing sound like a head alignment issue, and would anyone have an idea of what it might cost to repair ?

Thanks,
Richard
