Time stamps

Hi everyone. I am a rookie in here. I have found some very useful information in this forum and decided to join in!

I recently bought a MG77. I am happy with the video quality and overall. Just a little disappointed with the still picture quality that is not as good as my FujiPix camera. This is my first digital camcorder. The last one I bought was a 8mm. So I am new to this digital video editing world.

One problem I have after burning the video clips into a DVD is that there is no more time stamps. The on-screen time stamp (The date and time of the day the video was taken) that our entire family is used to seeing. The time stamp is available if I play the video off the camcorder directly.

How can I keep the timestamp after I put the video into a DVD?
Where is the timestamp stored? Is it stored in the MOD files?

Thanks in advance.

Everio camcorders don't encode time/date information directly onto the video. When you play the video on the camcorder and see the time, that is being displayed by the camcorder only is not part of the video image.

To find out the exact time and date the video was recorded, you can right click the file on your computer to check the properties or use "Details" view for the folder window. The attribute to look for is "Date Modified".

To add the time onto the video image, you can overlay text using your video editor. This is not as quick as the camcorder doing it for you but you have more options for how the time text looks and how long it is displayed.

Thanks for your reply.

Hm, this is terribly inconvenient and is not really the same as displaying the time on screen. I want the see the time ticks (just because I am used to it). It would be good if there is an editor that can automatically add the time stamps as subtitles in a DVD. Does it exist?

Thanks.

The way I found out how to do it is to add it to the video you want to edit then compile your whole dvd. I use microsoft movie maker to give me the date and time of the video. I then add text to each clip and save it as a DV file with the info.

I also just installed Ulead Videp Studio 10 and that also has a date/timestamp option. I really dont like recording dvd's without any date info. Another program that does it is Vegas Video from Sony.

Hope this helps.

I think this is bad indeed. It would be good if there is at least an option for this. Adding it later is not that good. E.g. I use the change over for minute counter to determine more acurately the seconds;-)
Or would it be possible of video editing software would use the MOI fiel as part of the editign process??? Perhaps we need to propose this to the video editing application people?

The 'Date Modified' is I think the date/time of the last frame. To get the start date of the video one needs to use MOI file:

All the best,
