Dual layer DVR-R

I am about to order the new canon DC 220 dvd camcorder. The manual says it does DVR-R DL. (dual layer) Figured why not use it. Just wanted to make sure this is the same theory as dual layer DVD movies. I am assuming if my dvd player can play dual layer movies then it will be able to play my home movies recorded in dual layer as well.
Thoughts??
thanks
Bill

Have you located a supplier of these MiniDVD dual layer disc's and determined if you can afford them? Single layer MiniDVD's were not easy to find a short time ago. I would think that dual layer ones would be very hard and expensive to find? I don't have a DVD camcorder so maybe I am totally wrong?

No I am having trouble finding them, I am guessing a new technology. Maybe I should just start with the single layers and then move up to the dual when they are around more.. Just curious if technology is the same as I mentioned.
thanks

Here is a link to 2 different brands of DL mini dvd's

http://www.amazon.com/Verbatim-DVD-...74492915&sr=1-5

http://www.amazon.com/DVD%2Br-Doubl...74493052&sr=1-5

They are not hard to get at all, you just have to order up! Best Buy and Circuit City stock them as well (memorex and sony brands).

Not sure why you would say that they are always available at your closest Walmart, Bestbuy, Circuit City, Target, or Fry's at least for the last 1.5 years since I have been using dvd cams they have been readily available. If you cant drive to a Walmart then jump online and order up! They are like hamburger in that you can buy as much as you want any time you want. Good luck!

I found a few yesterday after looking a bit for them as well. I had trouble originally finding the mini's.. Not a bad price, $5 a disk with cases. I think the single layers were like $2-3 per disc with case.

Still would like some confirmation that these will play on a standard DVD player. Swicthing between layers, I assume it will

That is a good question that I cant answer for sure because I have not used the new DL disc's yet. Like you I would assume that it would work fine considering dual layer technology is not new to dvd players it is only new to dvd cams. I think I might have to buy some of these DL disc's this weekend and do an experiment to verify this. It sounds like a good weekend homework project (or just another good excuse to give to the wife to use my new cam) LOL!
Also you should be able to find single layer 8cm disc's for way less than $2-$3 each. I saw them at fry's awhile back in a spindle of 30 for like $16.00 and they were memorex I believe. A person just has to look around and find the deals.
Take Care.

I agree the dual layer should work fine. I guess the canon manual saying DVD's that support this can play it, I was pretty certain every dvd player can playback dual layer, been around a long time, If you do the test, let me know, otherwise guess I just buy them and end up wasting a disc and just record nothing imporatnt for an hour, I think my dvd player shows you which layer it is on, etc.

I did see some signle layers for cheaper, but they don't come with jewel cases, amazing the cases seem more expensive then the discs. Still cheaper then 46-8 tape that I am using now (8mm)
thanks
Bill
